The main objective of the EU-funded initiative ‘Efficiency 2.1’ is to support consumers in their purchase decisions by providing up-to-date information about the most energy efficient products on the market and by supporting consumers in leading an energy efficient and eco-conscious lifestyle.
Why the EU-level campaign myEcoNavigator?
The energy efficiency of many electric products has improved greatly in recent years. However, the range of products is increasing constantly and obtaining an overview of the energy efficient product market is getting more and more complicated. In addition, the way consumers access information has changed rapidly in recent years and this, in turn, significantly influences the purchase decision-making process. Easily accessible information published online makes it possible for consumers to directly search and compare products, superseding sales advisory services in shops to some extent. However, consumers can still be overwhelmed by the vast selection of products and thus do not know which device they should choose.
Twelve partners have come together to launch the ‘myEcoNavigator’ campaign in ten European countries in order to provide independent support by modern means of communication to help consumers find truly sustainable and efficient products.
The campaign myEcoNavigator in a nutshell
The Europe-wide myEcoNavigator campaign strives for three main objectives:
- Increase the awareness of customers concerning the benefits of sustainable and energy efficient products, and increase demand for such products and solutions;
- Motivate consumers to lower their energy consumption by saving energy in their daily lives;
- Provide information on activities by other well-established initiatives promoting the purchase of high quality, energy efficient and ecologically sound products, and provide information on Ecodesign, efficiency-labelling legislation and product declarations.
How is Efficiency 2.1 funded?
The campaign is co-funded over a two and a half year period by the Intelligent Energy Europe Programme of the European Union. The project commenced in April 2013.

The ecoGator app - a personal advisor for energy-saving shopping and lifestyle choices
The initiative’s main output is a free of charge smartphone app, ecoGator. The app will be offered in all 10 countries covered by this campaign as an impartial personal advisor for energy-saving shopping and lifestyle choices.
ecoGato will guide consumers on two different levels: a shopping assistance mode and a day-to-day mode.
Shopping assistance mode:
provides functionalities which are designed to help consumers in stores or online to find and purchase the most energy efficient products on the market.
provides the consumer with playful elements (‘gamification’) to motivate them to lead a more sustainable lifestyle and to use the mobile application on a regular basis.
The app will be available in iOS and Android versions from October 2014. For more information, click here
